STICKY THE KRILL

Since its introduction in March 2012, the Krill has become somewhat of a modern-day legend in the bait scene. It’s a bait which has accounted for an incredible number of big carp from all across the UK and worldwide. It also has an increasing number of devout users, including many of the best anglers our country has to offer. Put simply, it’s a very well formulated bait, produced from some of the best quality ingredients available – the result is a boilie that any carp will readily accept as a food source. For us anglers this means that bait is one thing that we don’t need to worry about – simply browsing through the Sticky catch reports will give users a supreme level of confidence, and confidence breeds success.

In recent months there has been talk on the carp-vine of something BIG coming from the bait giant. Tom Anderson, the previous head honcho of Sticky and creator of The Krill, stepped out from the shadows and into the limelight, and with him came the words ‘KRILL ACTIVE’. Images of huge carp and stories of incredible captures filled our news feeds, and the carp world went crazy for Krill Active – what was it, when was it coming, could we all get a slice of that pie?

It soon became clear that Krill Active was the next evolutionary stage of what was already a legendary bait. A normal krill boilie surrounded by a sticky layer (excuse the pun) of highly active paste. The best news is that the finished bait is here now and soon to be available to all (as soon as we can all go about our fishing lives once more)!

We decided to talk to Sticky Baits’ new main man (and old friend of Total Carp) Dan Wildbore to see exactly what all the buzz was about:

“It was back in 2014 that the first batches were put together. We were off to Cassien for a few weeks and Tom knows the lake really well. He’s adamant that the fish prefer a fishmeal bait to anything else. These fish are wild and thrive on naturals, such as mussels, snails and crayfish. The way they hunt, like all carp, is detecting certain amino acids which triggers them to feed.”

“The normal out-the-bag Krill boilie is great, but something with increased attraction with the perfect amino package was always going to get interest from the carp. Back then, it was very time consuming to make, but over the years, with added investment and research, we have been able to make it in larger volumes, hence its release to the public.”

“I can’t divulge too much detail as to how the product is made, but I can explain what it creates. You have the Krill boilie, with added liquid attractors pumped into the bait. Once the bait has this coating of liquid, powders are added to the process. Over time, the baits end up with a paste-wrapped coating, full of attraction. The key to all this is the solubility of the powders and liquids. These will leak off and break down around the bait.”
